What are Enhanced Twitter Brand Pages?

You’ve probably noticed that some of your favorite Twitter brand pages have changed a bit. Back in December, Twitter announced a complete overhaul and redesign of their site -adding features to make Twitter faster, more intuitive and easier to express yourself. And now, Twitter has launched another feature: The ”Enhanced profile page”. The upgrade includes more robust  design options and further content feed controls.

Currently, the enhanced brand pages have only been rolled out to the brands and organizations that advertise with Twitter. As advertising with Twitter requires a minimum of a 3-month commitment of $5,000 per month, it’s no surprise that the places we see the new pages are among the likes of Coke, American Express, Volkswagon and philanthropic orgs like the American Red Cross. Two Google+ SEO Guides You Should Read

Our friends at Search Engine Land posted an article this week linking to two amazing resources on how to get the most out of Google+ in your SEO ranks.  The articles starts out noting that “Even if your audience isn’t active there, it’s almost mandatory to have a profile and be active (on Google+)” and they could not be more correct. With Google+ interactions starting to show up in search (pictured left), you’ll need to be careful and in the know about how it affects your company. There is also a huge opportunity lying in this type of social integration, considering that “90 percent of people trust recommendations of friends above any form of advertising”. That’s a pretty compelling argument, don’t you think?

Twitter Advertising for Small Business Released

Twitter announced that it will be partnering with American Express to allow early access to their Small  Business Advertising Program to card members and merchants.  The advertising platform allows you to not only further engage with your current Twitter followers, but also provides a more direct way of  reaching new customers who comprise the over 300+ million current Twitter users. This is no small opportunity for small business, as social networking accounts for nearly 20% of all time spent online globally and ranks as the most engaging activity.

For the launch, American Express is partnering with Twitter to allow their card members and merchants to not only use the program, but start out with a free $100 credit of Twitter advertising, a tactic that Google  has found succes with their AdWords platform. The promo is limited to the first 10,000 registrants and you have to register an American Express card, as well as pay any charges over your initial free $100 credit.

This is a major release because up until now, Twitter’s ad platform programs were held to a strict $15-25,000 minimum spend, a cost that is prohibitive for the majority of startups and small businesses. The program released is the first step Twitter has taken to break into the small business market, though it is a very logical step on Twitter’s part, because small business was the first market to really jump onto their platform and engage deeply with their audiences.

We’re excited to see how Twitter advertising works for small business. What do you think: Does it make sense? Will small businesses find success? Tell us in the comments!

5 ‘Moneyball’ Tips for Search Marketers from Billy Beane

Search Engine Watch posted an interesting article this week highlighting a talk given to search marketers by Jim Beane, the person the baseball movie “Moneyball” was based on. What do baseball and search engine marketing have in common? A surprising amount when you compare it to the strategies Jim Beane took while leading his low-budget team to a level playing field through quantitative analysis and mathematical calculations. Through his talk, he emphasized that there is a metric for everything and as long as you respect the data and what it is saying to you, you can succeed.

As a side note, I can confidently say that this is likely the only time the BringShare Blog will ever link to a Brad Pitt movie. On the other hand our CEO, Justin Spring, is a sports man, so you’ll likely see sport analogies again in the future.

Want People to Return Your Emails? Avoid These Words [INFOGRAPHIC]

Our friends at Mashable posted a nifty article this week giving some great tips for optimizing your email marketing campaigns. A company called Boomerang analyzed over 5 million emails to generate some surprising stats. The infographic cleverly and beautifully displays a lot of info, but we’ll also summarize the key material here:

  • Do or Don’t use the words in the picture on the left
  • People read the most email at 5am and 6am (This shocked us. We’re more late risers..)
  • The second highest email reading time is around lunch time
  • The average email user received 147 messages a day  and spends 2 1/2 hours reading email a day
  • On average, 71 of those 147 get deleted in less than 5 minutes

Each week the BringShare team compiles a short list of particularly relevant articles in the Digital Marketing and Web space and posts them here for your viewing pleasure.
